Johan Per's old woman murdered a pedlar and found no rest after death – the furniture shifted by night in the house where she once lived.

In the village of Ensillre in Borgsjö lived an old woman known as Johan Per's old woman, reputed throughout the district as spiteful and quick to anger. She had once murdered a travelling pedlar. After her death she found no rest but walked again. The narrator's uncle, then living in Ensillre, saw her several times and was troubled by her constantly: the furniture in the room stood rearranged by morning. The same 1945 account names two further revenants from the neighbouring village of Östby. Nygård's Per's Julla, who had met a sudden death, was often seen entering houses – people held that she had not finished living and had something to tell her relatives. Per-Nils' Kerstin appeared carrying a metal plate of glowing coals on her head, a punishment for something she had done in life.
