The Li Burial Field at Fjärås Bräcka

The 4.7-metre stone is called King Frode's stone — the legendary king is said to rest beneath it, and in 1865 the quarrying stopped abruptly.

Tallest of all the stones at the Li grave field rises a standing stone 4.7 metres high that the district calls King Frode's stone, after the legendary Danish king whom tradition lays beneath it. Around him the grave field spreads over five hundred metres on the western slope of Fjärås Bräcka, with some hundred and sixty monuments from the late Iron Age and the Viking Age: four mounds, twenty-four round settings, seven ship settings and a hundred and twenty-seven standing stones. For a long time local people quarried stone from the grave field for building — they were taking from the king's grave. In 1865 Karl XV visited and said that noble blood had run here; after that the quarrying ceased, and the Frode stone and several others were raised again. Excavation has yielded Viking Age pottery, iron objects and an unworked rock crystal.
