A mute old man was foretold to drown by the seer at Fjuk; when he was found dead in the ice-hole, witnesses heard 'a ringing scornful laugh from the lake'.

Southern Vättern bears rich water-wight folklore, recorded by Elis Åström. The fisherman Per Jonssa of S. Freberga, foretold by the lighthouse-keeper-seer at Fjuk to drown, boasted for years he would escape it; one morning he was found dead in an ice-hole, and witnesses heard 'a ringing scornful laugh from the lake' — Vättern mocking his boast. The lake-wight was seen at Fjuk (the fiddler; the fisherman Anders Värme, 1912). The island Jungfrun was taboo: 'here the witches held their wedding'.
