One of Östergötland's best-preserved medieval churches (12th–13th c.), tied to the Sverker dynasty. The legend: a giant from Rödgavel built the church for the farmer's/priest's blood, who was saved by guessing the giant's name (Påvel/Finn) — a leaning pillar remained. Giants took Heda's church silver but drank themselves to death on the communion wine. The Heda Madonna inspired Heidenstam's poem of the statue that has seen 'eight hundred Christmas nights'.
