The White Lady Martha Sabine floats over the lawns — and old Baroness Oluffa watches in the halls.
Liselund was established in 1790 by Antoine de la Calmette as a love gift to his wife Lisa, and the park is still one of Denmark's finest romantic settings. His son Charles later married Martha Sabine Mackeprang, a woman he loved deeply — but Charles lived beyond his means and died young. In the 1840s, Liselund fell into the hands of the Rosenkrantz family, and several of their female figures linger.
The White Lady — Martha Sabine herself — is still seen floating over the lawns between the castle and Møn's Cliffs. In the old halls, the elderly Baroness Oluffa keeps a firm eye on everything that happens. She is rarely seen but often felt, especially by guides and conservators working alone after closing time.
