Boltinggaard in central Funen dates to 1589 and lies near Ringe. On the estate, a tall, slender maiden in a black silk dress who rustled when she walked lingered for a long time. She seemed so lifelike that several tried to address her — but she could not bear the attention and made herself invisible.

Local rumours of a murdered spice peddler were confirmed when the clay-trampled floor in the carriage gate was once broken up — there, a human skeleton was found. Boltinggaard also has a darker historical connection: the conspiracy against Struensee in 1772 had ties to the estate, which gave the house a political history as heavy as its private one.
