Beneath Turtle Mountain's rubble rests an entire mining town — and drifting lights are said to cross the stone field at night.

At 4:10 in the morning on April 29, 1903, some 44 million cubic metres of limestone broke loose from Turtle Mountain and buried part of the mining town of Frank in Canada's deadliest rockslide. Up to 90 people were killed, and roughly seventy remain beneath the debris — most never received a grave. Visitors to the three-square-kilometre boulder field describe an unnatural mist creeping over the rocks, floating lights and the sense of unseen company. The spirits are said to wander the rubble, still searching for their missing.
