This restaurant at Lawrenceburg, Indiana began as two houses, which were later joined and used as a button factory.

An elderly woman lived in one of the houses and died in the room that is now called the Malt Room.

Staff call her the Lady Ghost, and there are a number of accounts.

One of them involves a waitress who felt her apron being tugged and assumed it was a colleague.

That assumption is what makes the report worth keeping. She did not think anything had happened. She thought somebody was getting her attention, which is the ordinary meaning of a tug on an apron in a busy restaurant, and she only reconsidered afterwards.

Button factories were real industry. Freshwater mussel shells from the Ohio and Mississippi were cut into blanks by the million before plastic replaced them.

The restaurant is open.
