Before the Wisconsin lot became a summer camp it belonged to a farmer, who is said to have drowned his pregnant wife in the lake and then vanished.

The land at Tuttle Lake near Wild Rose, Wisconsin is now a summer camp for children and teenagers. Before that it was a farm, and the legend belongs to the couple who worked it.

The story holds that the farmer lost his reason when he learned his wife was pregnant, drowned her in the lake, and was never seen again afterwards. It is old, it is local, and no record has been produced for it.

The account that keeps the place on lists like this one is far more recent and comes from two camp counsellors. They had gone out into the woods at night to look for a camper who was missing. What they walked into was a light so bright that, in their own words, they could not see a thing. It was not a torch and it did not move like one. They had no option but to turn back, because they could not see well enough to go forward.

The camp continues to operate. The lake is the part everyone means when they talk about the site.
