At the historic Hotel Bela Vista in Praia da Rocha, the former mistress of the house is said to have never left room 108.

The Hotel Bela Vista, a splendid 1918 palace perched on the cliffs of Praia da Rocha, was the Algarve's first true hotel. According to house legend, a former proprietress died in room 108 – and she does not appear to have checked out. Guests and staff have told of moaning sounds, knocking in the walls and a female figure glimpsed in the corridors at night. Today the Bela Vista is a five-star spa hotel, where the story of room 108 quietly lives on.
