Cassandra Marinoni, wife of Marquis Diofebo II, was murdered in 1573 along with her sister by her brother-in-law Giulio Anguissola in an inheritance dispute that was never atoned for. Dressed in ash grey, 'Donna Cenerina' wanders the frescoed halls, and tradition holds that she appears as an omen whenever misfortune awaits the family. The castle is open for guided tours that include her room.
