At the alchemists' enigmatic manor near Arcy-sur-Cure, a white lady appears at the windows – said to be its Revolution-era mistress.

The Renaissance manor of Chastenay, once called Château du Lys and built on former Templar ground at Arcy-sur-Cure, is covered in alchemical symbols that have baffled interpreters for centuries. Strange muffled sounds are reported from its walls, like vast unexplained rumblings. A white lady has repeatedly been seen at one of the windows – by tradition the ghost of a mistress of the d'Estut-Assay family who lived here through the Terror of the Revolution. Its setting near the prehistoric caves of the Cure valley has only deepened its reputation as one of Burgundy's most mysterious places.
