In this abandoned nineteenth-century colony between Sax and Villena, the count drowned in the palace fountain after a night of excess – echoes of the parties are said to linger.

The Santa Eulalia colony was built in 1887 as a self-sufficient model community with a palace, theatre and wine factory, but fell into oblivion and today stands largely abandoned between Sax and Villena. The story of its fall is its ghost story: the viscountess's affair with the count ended with him found drowned in the palace fountain after a night of gambling and excess. Paranormal investigators make pilgrimages here, reporting EVP recordings of party sounds and voices from the empty palace, while visitors describe the touch of invisible hands. Excavations have also revealed that the colony rests on an old Muslim burial ground.
