In the midst of a card game in Bø a tall black man came in and put out the light. Neither priest nor bishop could easily master him.

This legend from Bø in Telemark tells of some men playing cards when a tall black man came in and put out their light, so that they were struck dumb. One managed to fetch the priest, but the priest could not drive the stranger out, and they had to send for the bishop before he yielded. Then the card-playing too came to an end. In another version a wife noticed that one of the men at the table had claws — it was the old one himself — and at once it was over.
