The Wren Building at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia is the oldest college building in the United States, and the President's House stands beside it.

During the Revolutionary War the buildings were used as a makeshift hospital for the wounded, first by the Americans and then by the French. A French soldier died here, and he is the figure most often described.

A second account, added in March 2008, holds that an occupant discovered the body of a thirteen year old girl buried in the walls. That claim has never been supported by anything and should be treated as legend rather than as history.

The buildings burned and were rebuilt more than once and have been in continuous use since 1700. Both are open to visitors, and the college gives tours of them.
