The mansion stands at the end of the road at Spencer Mountain, near Gastonia, North Carolina. It was built in the late 1700s, and in more than two centuries nobody has ever lived in it.

The woman who owned Pharr Yarns had it built for her grandson. He died shortly after it was finished. She ruled that since he would never occupy it, no one else would either, and the house has stood empty ever since on her instruction.

The town has since used it as a seasonal haunted house, with the proceeds going to the local fire department, which means a good many people have now been through it in the dark on purpose.

Local account holds that two men and a woman are present. The reports come from those working upstairs during the seasonal events, and several have left the building badly shaken, describing being unable to breathe.

A house built for someone who never moved in, and then deliberately kept empty for two hundred years, is a rare thing. Most abandoned houses were abandoned. This one was sealed.
