The mansion on Mount Anthony at Bennington, Vermont was built by Edward Everett, who made a fortune in paper bottle caps, and it later became a seminary and then a college.

What is reported there has been catalogued over years by the students and staff who worked night security, which is a better source than most. They distinguish between several figures rather than treating the house as generally troubled, and the one they report most often is the second wife.

Everett's daughter drowned in the fountain on the estate, according to the story most often told about the house. The college itself repeated it for years.

The college closed in 2019 and the estate has been sold on. The building stands on the mountain above the town.
