Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire was one of the prisons where Mary Queen of Scots was held. She is said to despise the place and to return as one of its ghosts. There are also accounts of a figure in full armour, a White Lady and a child. In 2004 Mary’s apparition reportedly appeared to some forty people atop the South Tower. The ruin is open to visitors.
