The Dakota

The Dakota at 72nd Street in Manhattan was built between 1880 and 1884 and is New York's oldest surviving luxury apartment building, designed in the German Renaissance style. John Lennon was murdered at the entrance on 8 December 1980, and Yoko Ono lived here for decades. Lennon's figure is said to have been seen near the building, and Ono herself has described a sighting. The building's eerie reputation is older than that, as it was used as a filming location for Rosemary's Baby. Residents and staff have long reported apparitions, among them a weeping girl and a ghostly workman.
