Church of Our Lady (the 'Garp' church)

Consecrated 1306, built in brick by Skänninge's wealthy German merchants, many of whom had themselves buried inside. The floor is full of grave slabs. Excavations reveal older churches beneath: a 12th-century stone church and traces of an 11th-century wooden one, confirmed by a rune-carved gravestone. [Documented history.]
