The RMS Queen Mary, once the world's most luxurious ocean liner, is permanently moored at Long Beach, California, and is the most reported ship in the world. She is said to house over 150 spirits, and both staff and visitors regularly report what may be paranormal activity.

She was a genuine Atlantic liner before she was an attraction. She carried passengers from 1936, was painted grey and used as a troopship through the Second World War, and in 1942 she cut through the cruiser Curacoa in the North Atlantic while zigzagging at speed. Over three hundred men died and she was under orders not to stop. That is the single worst thing that ever happened aboard, and it is rarely what the ghost tours talk about.

Most notorious is cabin B340. Guests and cleaners have found the bathroom tap running when no one had stayed in the room, and bedding pulled back shortly after the bed was made. B340 was closed off during the 1970s, but reopened in 2018 as a haunted attraction. A man is seen in the engine room, where he was killed while she was still working; the story attached to him concerns a watertight door.

Around the first-class swimming pool, drained for decades, people hear children playing and splashing, and wet footprints appear on the tiles. One spirit is said to be a little girl named Jackie, who drowned in the pool in the 1940s.

There is, however, considerable scepticism. There is no record of anyone drowning in either the first- or second-class pool, and no record of a dismembered body in B340. The bulk of the ghost activity began around 1989 — which some connect to Disney, then operating the ship. True or invented, the Queen Mary remains one of America's most visited ghost ships, and she is a hotel open to visitors.
