Fénis is the Aosta Valley's most spectacular medieval castle, with double curtain walls and towers straight out of a storybook. Behind the facade lies a dark legend: a lady of the castle is said to have murdered her stepson so her own child would inherit, hiding the body in the castle's cavities so everyone believed the boy had run away. The child's spirit reportedly never left Fénis, drifting through the rooms, moving objects and playing tricks on visitors. Witnesses tell of rattling chains and screams echoing through the halls at night.
