Music hall has been played on Dame Street since the Erin Music Hall opened in 1879, and the Olympia's staff have kept notes on the building for over a hundred years. What recurs is knocking on the door of dressing room number nine when the corridor is empty, footsteps passing with nobody there, and a yellow glow drifting at knee height along the passage behind the stage. An electrician felt the rostrum he was sitting on move beneath him, and a stage manager with thirty-three years in the house watched a blue light come out of a dressing room, pass him and vanish round the corner. A medium called in gave the crying heard in the bar the name Charlie Parker. Magician Joe Daly, rehearsing there in 2008, described a presence in his dressing room.
