Highclere Castle in Berkshire is famous as the filming location for Downton Abbey. The castle, home to the Carnarvon family — whose fifth Earl helped open Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 — is said to hold several ghosts. Lady Carnarvon has herself described an unhappy footman whose apparition followed her through the rooms. The castle is open to visitors part of the year.
