The Congress Plaza Hotel on Michigan Avenue in Chicago opened in 1893 as an annex for the world's fair held that year, and was later extended to around one million square feet. The hotel is counted among the most haunted buildings in the city. The best known tales concern room 441 with its unexplained shadow figure, a sealed off section and an apparition of a boy. Reported phenomena include a woman in an old fashioned dress along with lights and doors that operate on their own. A persistent legend ties a death to the building during the fair.
