Since the late 1700s, treasure hunters have dug at Oak Island's enigmatic Money Pit, a shaft of supposed traps and flood tunnels that has defeated every attempt. The island's oldest legend tells of two fishermen who rowed out in 1720 to investigate strange lights and never returned, their spirits said to guard the island still. Then there is the curse: seven men must die before the treasure yields itself — six have perished in the hunt so far. Night lights, watching figures and centuries of fruitless digging have made this Canada's most mythologised island.
