He is a familiar figure to local people, who say his spirit protects the place and warns those who live at or visit Blomsholm of coming danger.
Conrad's background is one of tragedy. He suffered a personal catastrophe when his son Claus drowned in a whirlpool in the Strömstad archipelago. Conrad tried to save his son but was himself lost in the depths. Since then he is said to haunt Blomsholm in order to protect others from sudden death — perhaps in an attempt to make good his own failure.
Soldiers and whispering voices
Blomsholm is known for its ancient monuments and its long history, from the Stone Age to modern times. But it is the manor's eighteenth-century history that seems to have left the most traces. Here, along Karl XII's old galley road, Blomsholm was used as a field hospital for wounded soldiers on their way to Norway. The statarlänga, one of the estate's buildings dating from 1899, has its own strange stories. One visitor recounted feeling a cold hand that warned her against jumping into the haystacks, where she would otherwise have risked falling through a hatch in the floor.
