As a psychiatric hospital, Alborgen was the setting for many tragic fates. Suicides and other sudden deaths occurred here, and these are thought to have contributed to the heavy, uneasy atmosphere that still pervades the building today.

Hauntings at Alborgen

Many employees and visitors have reported unexplained events. The sound of feet running on staircases, furniture that moves by itself, and a presence that is felt but never quite seen are among the experiences people describe.

One member of staff recounted a particularly unpleasant episode in which two chairs in the cafeteria moved while she was the only person in the building. On another occasion she heard footsteps and felt an icy presence directly behind her, but when she turned around there was no one there.

Several visitors have also seen a mysterious little girl in a white dress with long auburn hair. Although independent witnesses have drawn her, no one has ever been able to explain who she is or why she continues to haunt the place.

A visit from Det okända

Alborgen drew wide attention when it was visited by the Swedish television programme Det okända in 2016. During filming, unexplained tufts of hair were discovered. These were later submitted for DNA analysis, which further fed the building's reputation as genuinely haunted.

The future of Alborgen

Despite its compelling and unsettling history, Alborgen faces an uncertain future. The new owner plans to convert the building into housing, but archaeological and cultural heritage assessments have delayed the project. Until then, Alborgen remains a place where adventure and the supernatural sit side by side.
