A correction filed in 2007 established what the building was: a state hospital, part of which is now used for teaching.

An update filed in January 2007 corrected the record on this building in downtown Stockton, California. It was a state mental hospital.

Part of the site is now used for education, including provision for students with severe learning difficulties, and part of it has become a college.

That second use is why this entry has to be written carefully. There are people receiving education in that building today who have disabilities, and they are not part of anybody's ghost story.

The institution that stood here held patients for long periods under a system that California later dismantled, and a great many of those patients died on the grounds.

What is reported comes from the older parts.

The site is in educational use and is not open to visitors.
