The abandoned hospital at the old Turner Field at Albany, Georgia attracts a story about people being tortured in the basement, and about the smell of blood on entering.

None of that is supported by anything. It is what accumulates around any large empty institutional building, and it should be set aside.

What the site actually was: Turner Field was an army airfield opened in 1941, one of the biggest bombardier training schools in the country. Thousands of young men learned to bomb here before being sent to Europe and the Pacific, and the hospital treated the results of training accidents in aircraft that killed men regularly before they ever saw combat.

There is a tunnel in the basement, and no one who has gone in has reported reaching the end of it. Service tunnels of that kind are standard on installations of this size and usually connect the boiler house to the wards.

The site is derelict, unsafe and posted against trespass.
