No execution for witchcraft ever took place in Maine. The panics that produced hangings were in Massachusetts, and York's actual colonial catastrophe was different and worse: in 1692, the same year as the Salem trials, the village was destroyed in a raid and around a hundred people were killed or taken captive.

So the town does have a mass casualty event from that exact year, and the story that survives is about a witch.
