Spadra Cemetery at Pomona, California was the original settlers' burial ground, dating from the middle of the nineteenth century.

It is now closed to the public. Visitors damaged it over many years, and the police are called on anyone who goes in.

That closure is the most important line in this entry, and it is the direct result of the reputation. A small pioneer graveyard became a destination, people came at night, and the stones paid for it.

Spadra was a stage stop on the road east out of Los Angeles, a real town that the railway bypassed and that eventually disappeared entirely. The graveyard is effectively all that is left of it.

The families buried here founded this valley, and the site is a burial ground rather than an attraction. It is closed and the closure is enforced.
