During the 1980s people around Vanceburg, Kentucky reported a hoofed figure, half man and half deer or goat, in the hills above Slate Point.

Through the 1980s there were several sightings around Slate Point and the hills above Vanceburg, Kentucky of a hoofed figure, described as half man and half deer or goat.

What local accounts attached to it was considerably heavier than the sighting itself: that it was bringing in an age of depression, death and bitterness, and that a way into somewhere else had been opened.

The same shape, or something taken for it, was reported repeatedly at Slate Hollow point, near a cabin that has since gone.

Goat man figures are reported across the eastern United States, from Maryland to Texas, and they cluster in isolated wooded country during periods when a community is under strain. The 1980s in this part of Kentucky were exactly that.

The hollow is remote and the cabin is no longer there.
