The reports include pirates burying stolen gold, a ship hovering above the treeline, British soldiers concealing colonial treasure during the Revolutionary War, and a full Spanish galleon that appears and then is simply not there. Others describe skeletons in knight's armour with swords drawn, groups of men digging furiously in the dark, and horses and cattle that fade while being watched.
