The building at Sioux City, Iowa went up around 1915 as a state of the art meat packing plant, and the company behind it went bankrupt shortly after it was finished. Swift and Company bought it and ran a packing operation there for many years. In 1949 a gas leak caused an explosion that killed a number of people.

After Swift moved out, the building was bought and converted into a shopping centre with shops, a bowling alley and a miniature golf course, and given the name KD Station.

The accounts come from a friend of the original submitter who worked security in the building and also ran a martial arts studio inside it, which means the reports come from someone who was in the place at all hours across years rather than on a single visit.
