In Henry Hudson Park at Glenmont, New York, a road off Route 9W leads down to a trail. It is posted against trespass and its entrance is marked by two large stone lions.

What is said to stand along it is a building local accounts call the slave house.

That name deserves examination rather than repetition. Slavery was legal in New York State until 1827, later than in any other northern state, and the Hudson Valley had one of the highest concentrations of enslaved people anywhere in the north. Dutch landholding families along this river held people for generations.

So a building of that description in this valley is entirely possible, and the local name may be accurate. Whether this particular structure was one has not been established here.
