Losby Manor in Lørenskog, just east of Oslo, carries 500 years of history: a sawmill in the 1500s, then a great estate with a magnificent hunting lodge from 1850 where the capital's elite were invited to hunting dinners and balls. But the estate's own chronicle holds a dark chapter: when owner Andreas Lumholtz drove the property into bankruptcy in the late 1800s, the steward hanged himself in his bedroom in the eastern wing. It is he whom staff and guests of today's manor hotel speak of — footsteps in empty corridors, doors opening, and the unmistakable sense of someone keeping watch over the east wing at night. The tragedy is documented in the estate's own history, making Losby one of the Oslo region's most talked-about haunted hotels.
