Behind Turin's infamous Devil's Gate, the ballerina Emma Cochet is said to haunt the halls where she was stabbed at a masked ball.

This 1670s Baroque palace is best known for its ornate wooden portal, whose door knocker shaped like a demon's head earned it the name the Devil's Gate. Legend has it the door appeared out of nowhere one night after an apprentice sorcerer summoned the powers of darkness – and that the devil punished him by trapping him inside the palace forever. The ballerina Emma Cochet is also said to have been stabbed to death here during a masked ball in the late 1800s, and her ghost has reportedly wandered the halls ever since. The fact that the palace housed a tarot card factory in the seventeenth century has only deepened its occult reputation.
