On full-moon nights a white-clad noblewoman is said to walk the ramparts above Lamia, mourning her death.

The castle on the hill above Lamia has guarded the town since antiquity — the ancient acropolis was rebuilt as a fortress by Byzantines, Franks and Ottomans in turn. According to local legend a young noblewoman was murdered at the castle, and on full-moon nights she is said to appear in white on the ramparts, lamenting her unjust death. Visitors describe a peculiar, heavy stillness within the walls after dark. Today the castle houses the town's archaeological museum.
