There are tunnels running under this campus in Alabama. They go back to the Civil War and now carry the steam heating.

The theatre department in Reynolds Hall was a hospital during that war, which is documented. Alabama's public buildings were requisitioned for the wounded, and a college hall with a large open floor was exactly what the army wanted.

A claim circulates that there was a massacre here and that the rooms were stacked with bodies. Nothing supports it, and it should not be repeated. What did happen in buildings like this one was slower and quieter: men brought in from engagements elsewhere, most of them dying of infection rather than wounds.
