The bar on the corner in Sitka, southeast Alaska was known for years as the Kik, or the Kiksadi Club. It trades now as Rookies, a sports bar. The corner outside it is blind.

The account concerns a woman who left the bar very drunk and set off to walk into town on her own. In a place that size that was an ordinary thing to do. A cab could be flagged down, or somebody who knew you would stop and pick you up along the way.

She staggered out onto the road on the blind corner, and a young man driving a truck, who had also been drinking, ran her over. She was drunk enough that she is thought not to have seen him coming.

Two people's lives ended that night in different ways, and the corner has carried it ever since. What is reported there comes mostly from bar staff and from people walking home the same way, which is to say from people doing exactly what she was doing.
