Old Highway 411 was for a long time the only road in or out of Chatsworth, Georgia, and the ground it crosses carries two histories.

Soldiers of the Civil War are reported along it, and so are Cherokee figures.

Drivers describe glowing eyes coming at the windscreen, things running alongside the car, and loud crashes from the woods.

Both histories are real and both happened here. Murray County is Cherokee country. New Echota, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, is a short distance away, and so is the Vann House. This is where the removal was organised from, and the people driven west in 1838 set off from stockades in these hills.

The war came through thirty years later on its way to Atlanta.

The road is public and rural.
