Lurberget is the southern break in the esker at the village of Brunn in Hedesunda, facing Lake Flaren and the Dalälven river. According to old legend, Lady Lura guards a silver hoard inside the mountain, and she is said to be kin to Lady Sala, the mountain spirit of the Sala silver mine – a link binding together the mining folklore of two provinces. The legend further held that there had been a silver mine at Brunn, and that an oak had been planted over the filled-in shaft to conceal where it lay. In 2004 and 2005 the story was taken seriously: the old oak was felled and test drilling went down to eighteen metres. In January and February 2006 a mine tunnel was found, and in autumn 2007 the investigations reached twenty metres. A provisional dating places the mine in the thirteenth or fourteenth century. The legend of the woman guarding the mountain turned out to point at a real medieval mine.
