Trivale Forest, west of Pitești, is one of Romania's largest urban woodlands, a beloved park with a monastery and winding paths – and thick with legends. The most famous tells of a headless bride who appears on the trails to unmarried couples, a girl who died before ever reaching the altar. Another long-lived tale concerns a taxi driver who one night drove home a silent woman in a wedding dress; the next day he found a tarnished ring on his finger – and learned the woman had been dead for years. The forest is peaceful by day, but few choose its paths after dark.
