Beneath St Anne's Chapel in the world's largest brick castle lie the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order. Legend has it that at midnight their spirits leave the crypt and gather in one of the halls, where they hold learned disputes until first light. A Jesuit crossing the bridge late one night is said to have seen the pale figures of the Grand Masters emerging from the tomb and gliding towards the castle. Others tell of grieving Teutonic Knights forever mourning the fall of their order in the endless corridors.
