Noor Castle is a Carolean-era manor in Knivsta, Uppland. Its most famous ghost story involves the writer Verner von Heidenstam, who lived here for a year while writing The Charles Men (Karolinerna). One night around two, just as he finished the chapter on Karl XII’s death at Fredrikshald, he heard footsteps and a jingling, rattling sound — and in the dark doorway stood, by his own account, King Karl XII himself in field uniform. The castle is a hotel and conference venue today.
