Fleischer's Hotel rises in Swiss chalet style beside Lake Vangsvatnet and has been run by the same family since 1889. A long-lived tradition holds that the old timber house has one guest who never checked out: Magdalene Fleischer, the hotel's first hostess. Unlike most Norwegian hotel ghosts she is described as kindly, someone still concerned for the guests' wellbeing and therefore unwilling to leave. The most repeated episode concerns a sleeping guest who woke to find someone patting her softly on the cheek. Within the Norwegian hotel trade, Fleischer's ranks among the country's most talked-about haunted houses, alongside Dr Holms at Geilo and Union Øye in Norangsdalen. Sleeping here is not frightening – if the tradition is to be believed, it is rather like being looked after.
