Chile's largest burial ground, opened in 1821 at the foot of Cerro Blanco, holds presidents, poets and victims of the dictatorship – and a whole layer of legends. Night guards and visitors tell of whispers along the grave-lined avenues and figures that dissolve when looked at. Most famous is the woman in bridal dress, said to search for the beloved she never got to marry. Flowers are still left at her grave by those seeking help in love.
