Deep in the Vorotan river gorge below Tatev Monastery, a massive natural stone bridge spans the rapids, surrounded by warm springs and dripstone formations. According to legend no human could build such a thing: a master builder asked the devil for help, and in return the devil demanded the soul of the first to cross. The builder outwitted him by sending a dog across first, whereupon the furious devil vanished forever — but the name Satani Kamurj, the Devil's Bridge, remained. Beneath the bridge open caves where few dare to descend.
